The Mayor of Wells

Alison Gibson

Councillor Alison Gibson
On the 21st May 2016 Cllr Gibson was elected 643rd Mayor of Wells. Her fiancé Steve Luck is her Consort and the Deputy Mayor is John North.

The Mayors Chaplain is Alistair Glanvile who is also a reader at St Cuthbert's Church Wells.

The Mayors Charities this year are :-
Arthritis Care - Arthritis Care provides and improves services to help people with Arthritis, they give information, guidance and practical support for sufferers.
The Wells Branch meet here at the Town Hall on the last Monday of each month at 2pm.
Wells Little Theatre -Wells Little Theatre has been entertaining both young and old for over a century, since 1902.  The latest project the Society is working on is to renovate the orchestra pit to make it larger. I hope that the Mayors charity events will help swell the Theatres piggybank to help them achieve their goal!

Cllr Gibson is a real local girl, having grown up and lived in Glastonbury, she emigrated to Wells and there she stayed.  She works in her family business alongside her brother, sister- in- law and 2 nephews.  She lives in Wells with her fiancée, and her furry family of 4 cats, 3 fish and a chocolate lab called Rosie.

Since being elected to council in 2011 Alison has been improving the pavements around the City, she walks them daily within her lunch hour or at other times with Rosie her dog, and she quickly notifies Highways of any defects, in fact under AOB at Full Council all the other Councillors wait for her to point out a defect!!

She has also:

  • Worked alongside Paul Toole ‘Mr Christmas from Manning Close’ and the Open Spaces Team to execute the annual Xmas lights, every year they add to them and improve them to make them truly wonderful.
  • Brought the new map boards & machines  to Wells which are used daily by visitors to our City of Wells.
  • Been an active member of Wells in Bloom, chairing the committee for 2 years as well as planting, sweeping and weeding!
  • Took on the role of Chair of the Archives & Civic Assets committee, putting together a new civic review for the council.
  • Been a member of the Planning Committee in which she championed the preservation of the High Street over the East Somerset Way development.
  • Gained support from the council over the sports lease renewal.

Cllr Gibson says "I am delighted to be elected Mayor of Wells and I hope to promote our beautiful City and do the job of Mayor to the best of my abilities".
