Wells City Council provides Community Grants to support projects and activities that benefit people living, working or studying in Wells.
Grants of up to £500 are available to eligible organisations. Applications are considered by the Finance Committee at meetings held in September and March.
Who can apply?
Applications are accepted from:
- Charitable organisations
- Community interest groups
- Sports clubs and arts groups
- Advice organisations
- Supporters or 'friends of' groups
- Residents' associations
- Groups seeking seed funding with the intention of becoming one of the above
Before applying, please read the Community Grants Policy for full details of the scheme, including eligibility criteria and the application process. The policy was agreed by Wells City Council in July 2026.

Community Grants awarded
March 2026
- The Bishop's Palace - Funding towards a wheelchair-accessible bench. £190 awarded.
- Citizens Advice - Funding towards training a cohort of volunteers to assist residents in Wells with completing PIP disability benefit forms. £500 awarded.
- Orchard Vale Trust - Funding towards sports activity equipment for its adult learning disability service. The organisation reported that 21 residents who access the facility are from Wells. £330 awarded.
- Youth Adventure Trust - Funding towards its work supporting vulnerable children aged 11 to 16 through outdoor adventure, including pupils at Wells Blue School. £480 awarded.
September 2025
- Wells City Carnival - Funding towards 20 body-worn cameras and two megaphones to support safety at the November City Carnival. £500 awarded.
- Wells Jazz and Blues Festival - Funding towards the costs of establishing the festival in its inaugural year. £500 awarded.
- Wells Storehouse - Funding towards improvements to a proposed community room at the Old Pumphouse, supporting the charity's food bank and furniture store. £500 awarded.
