    A visit to HMS Somerset

    A visit to HMS Somerset

The Mayor and Mayoress had a marvellous day on HMS Somerset recently in Plymouth. After a £52 million re-fit, the class 23 Frigate led by Commander David Mason took them out into the English Channel off the coast of Cornwall.  They were treated to a full tour of the ship including the Bridge and the Observation room.  There was a demonstration of their extensive fire drill which they participated in, aiming the huge hoses over the side.  They also fired the machine guns and saw where the ships missiles were stored. The wonderful day which began at 7.15am with breakfast ended at 4pm when they were piped ashore.
The Mayor and Mayoress give their sincere thanks to the whole ships company for their amazing day.
