    The Mayor's update

    The Mayors update

The Mayor of Wells, Cllr Louis Agabani started the week with an interview for GWS (Glastonbury, Wells, Street) radio for a program called Maestro Classics. He discussed his new roll as Mayor and his love of opera.

Louis had a great time at the Wells Running Festival, meeting runners of all ages. Amazingly there were over 700 runners who took part, a special event with Wells Rotary supporting the organisers. The Mayor was asked to draw a raffle for a Rotary fundraiser, where the first prize was a hot air balloon ride.

The Deputy Mayor, Cllr Denise Denis represented Wells at Ilminster Council Mayor Making, where Cllr Brian Hamilton was elected as Mayor for a second term.

Louis has started his mayoral year supporting the skatepark project, picture top of article. So far 20% of the target has been raised and although there is a need to raise £500k, the majority will come from major organisations, like the Lottery and Sports Council. It's critical that Wells demonstrate community desire for the project. If we can raise £30,000 through the crowdfunder that would be a wonderful start.
