I spent the last couple of weeks without the Mayoral Chain as it was in desperate need of some minor repairs, now all sorted and safely returned.
One of my hobbies is playing 'paddle' (a racket sport similar to tennis, but played on a small enclosed court). I took a group of youngsters from Wells to enjoy a taster session in Bristol.
I met with a number of independent retailers to discuss the challenges they are facing at the moment in Wells and the Mayoress and I celebrated the opening of a new shop in Queen Street.
We hosted the Lord-Lieutenant of Somerset, Mohammed Saddiq, for tea in Wells. It was a great opportunity to get to know him and the work he does on behalf of His Majesty the King.
We were lucky to spend time, twice, with the High Sheriff of Somerset, Janet Montgomery.
First at her garden party, where we met many fascinating people who do wonderful work in Somerset. Devito’s Circus stood out to me the most. They were awarded with the High Sheriff award. I am hoping to invite them to Wells next year.

I then met the High Sheriff again at Wells Soup! This has been created to support local charities and projects. Four groups provide a presentation and a vote is taken on which project is thought to benefit Wells and the surrounding area, funds raised on the day are taken away to support their project.
