Christmas at Wells set to shine with two-day festive market, new lights and family trail

Christmas at Wells set to shine with two-day festive market, new lights and family trail

Wells City Council is preparing to bring festive cheer to Wells this December, with a two-day Christmas Market, a family Christmas trail and a new Christmas lighting scheme forming part of this year's celebrations, on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th December.

The programme marks the beginning of a longer-term approach to Christmas in Wells, as the Council looks to develop its festive offering and create an increasingly welcoming experience for residents, businesses and visitors.

Two days of Christmas Market magic

The Christmas Market will take place on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th December, bringing more than 200 artisan stalls to the city centre.

The market will extend from the bottom of Sadler Street through the Market Place, High Street, Queen Street and Broad Street, bringing together traders, live music and entertainment and independent businesses for a festive weekend in the heart of Wells.

New Christmas lights for Wells city centre

Wells High Street and Broad Street will feature a new Christmas lighting scheme this year, with warm white icicle lights replacing the existing Christmas motifs.

The new lighting is designed to complement the traditional character of Wells city centre, creating a consistent and welcoming festive atmosphere. Installation is scheduled for 25th and 26th November, ahead of the festive season. The Council continues to work with the businesses involved to support arrangements for access and electrical supply.

The change marks the first step in the Council's longer-term plans to develop Christmas at Wells, with the aim of building on this year's offering in future years.

A festive trail and interactive map for families

Families will also be able to take part in a Christmas trail, encouraging children and adults to explore the city centre and discover participating independent shops.

An interactive map will help residents and visitors discover the wide range of market traders and independent businesses across the city, encouraging people to explore more of what Wells has to offer.

Further details about the trail and other Christmas activities will be available on the Council’s website and social media channels.

Throughout the festive season, residents and visitors are encouraged to support local, independent businesses and enjoy the festive activities taking place across the city this December.
