Mayors Diary Week Commencing 25th August

Weekly update from the Mayor of Wells, Cllr Louis Agabani

Weekly update from the Mayor of Wells, Cllr Louis Agabani

I have had the pleasure of attending two very different events this last week.

On Thursday I spoke at the Somerset Council Scrutiny committee, representing all residents of the City, in highlighting the distress that the prospect of loosing beds at West Mendip Hospital is causing. When our cottage hospital was closed earlier this century, we in Wells were promised that hospital beds would be kept local. This is starting to change and as I promised in a recent Council meeting, I have acted as the Councils and City’s advocate in representing views to the committee.

Over the Bank Holiday the Mayor and Mayoress were at the annual Moat Boat Race. We must thank The Wells Lions for keeping this event going and making it such a success, equally, thanks to the Bishop for his continued agreement and support to this much loved community event. It was a pleasure to be part of it and to be able to speak to many people through the morning.
