Update from the Mayor of Wells, Cllr Louis Agabani

Update from the Mayor of Wells, Cllr Louis Agabani

Traditionally the Mayor of Wells would use his or her year supporting a charity; raising money or awareness. I am using my time as Mayor to do a bit of both.

A few years ago a group of Wells parents and residents decided to form a charity to build a new skatepark here in Wells.

The proposed modern concrete park has now got full planning permission. The target is to raise £500,000.

So far we have raised around £120,000 from a mixture of S106 money received from developments, generous donations from local residents and businesses, and support from Wells City Council.

The next phase is to approach the lottery and charitable funds, as well as an auction of skate boards in October.

We have been working with Wells Art Contemporary (WAC), to invite artists to paint boards. Some of the artwork will be displayed in the Cathedral as part of WAC in October. There will also be a display in Loaf Cafe here in Wells and in the Heart Of the Tribe Gallery in Glastonbury. Here is more information on the gallery's involvement https://www.heartofthetribe.com/.../wells-art...

The online auction will start on 8th October and run until the end of November. Details coming soon.

In the meantime the Crowdfunder is still live and donations are most welcome.
