BBC Somerset reporter Ruth Bradley came here on Wednesday to interview the Mayor about the assets that the city council would like returned to Wells.
In the local government reorganisation of 1974 control of the Recreation Ground, Bishop’s Barn, Market Place and Athletic Ground were given to the newly formed Mendip District Council.
This week Mendip formally agreed to return the Recreation Ground and Bishop’s Barn.
The Mayor explained that the city council would also like the Market Place and Athletic Ground returned to Wells and he hoped this would happen as a result of the next local government reorganisation. This will involve the abolition of Mendip council at the end of March 2023 and the creation of a new Unitary county council.
