Introducing the new 650th Mayor of Wells

Introducing the new 650th Mayor of Wells

On the 18th May 2024, Councillor Jasmine Browne, became the historic 650th Mayor of Wells. William Nuttall was appointed as her Consort.

Jasmine trained as a teacher and has worked in education for 25 years. She is passionate about giving a voice to young people in the City and has chosen this as her focus for her Mayoral year. Her chosen charity is the 5th/7th Wells Scouts who equip young people aged 4-18 with skills for life based mainly on the outdoors. A former volunteer at the Scouts herself, Jasmine wants to raise funds towards the refurbishment of the Scouts Hut in Kennion Road which is in need of updating in order to continue to provide the young people with the opportunities to develop independence and fulfill their potential. Jasmine appointed two Cadets from the 1955 ATC City of Wells Squadron. Cadet Sergeant Marshall-Smith and Cadet Corporal Colwill will accompany Councillor Browne to official engagements throughout her year. Guests at the Mayor Making Ceremony were entertained by a very talented band from the Blue School who compose their own music. Jasmine intends to invite representatives from all schools and Youth Organisations to share in what Wells City Council does and give their own views on what we can do for our City.

Jasmine came to Wells with her parents 11 years ago, after they moved here. She is Mum to two boys who attend local schools. Upon her installation as 650th Mayor of Wells on Saturday, Jasmine said 'To be Mayor is about public service and giving back to the Community. To serve this City as its first citizen is the greatest honour I could imagine'
