The Mayor and Mayoress reopened Wells Cinema on 21st May after Covid restrictions had kept it closed for 14 months.

“This is a valuable community resource that needs our support,” said Councillor Welch. “Very few places as small as Wells have a three-screen cinema.”

Three talented children received book token prizes from W H Smiths of Wells for the brilliant designs they created for the Wells Coronavirus Network mascot.

Winner of the competition was Nora, who with the runners-up Orla and Esme, came to the Town Hall on 24th May to be presented with their prizes by the Mayor of Wells.

In the photo Nora is holding the finished mascot from her design which was sewn by Helene Buttisant of South Horrington who is also pictured.

That took Helene a day’s work and eight of the sewn mascots have now been placed in the windows of private houses and maps for the trail will be available from 2nd June for download from letsdoitwells.com or on paper from the ticket office of the Bishop’s Palace.

The maps will give instructions for following the trail and the prizes to be won. It is part of the celebrations for National Volunteers Week.

Councillor Welch praised the children for their invention and creativity.
